The following information was provided to UBCP/ACTRA from the head Concussion Physician at Fortius Sport and Health that could be of benefit to anyone suffering from concussions.

This information has been approved for sharing with our stunt community providing that you consult with your doctor before following any of the below recommendations.  

Post-Concussion Syndrome Vitamin Regimen  

The concussion vitamin therapy is recommended to aid with the symptoms and recovery from a concussion.
Vitamins can be found over the counter at most grocery/drug/vitamin stores.  Consult with your sports medicine physician before starting any of the following.*

To help improve COGNITIVE function :
Fish oil/Omega 3 1000 mg (or roughly 600 mg EPA/DHA), starting as soon as possible after concussion, take:
5 tabs THREE TIMES a day (9,000 total EPA/DHA per day) for the first 10 days, then
5 tabs TWICE DAILY (6,000 total per day) for the next 10 days,then
5 tabs ONCE DAILY (3,000 total per day) for the next 10 days

If concussion is chronic:
Fish oil/Omega 3 1000mg 2 tabs ONCE DAILY
Zinc 30mg ONCE DAILY
Gingko Biloba 120mg TWICE DAILY

To help reduce HEADACHES:
Coenzyme Q10 100mg TWICE DAILY
Riboflavin/Vitamin B2 400mg ONCE DAILY or 200mg TWICE DAILY
>Magnesium oxide 100-400mg TWICE DAILY

To help with INSOMNIA: 
Melatonin 3-5mg AT BEDTIME

To decrease symptoms of DEPRESSION and/or ANXIETY:
St. John’s Wort 300-1200mg ONCE DAILY

Other:
Alpha Lipoic Acid 200mg TWICE DAILY N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) 1200mg TWICE DAILY for 7 days
Curcumin/Turmeric 500mg TWICE DAILY

*Athletes weighing less than 115 pounds should take half the dosage recommended above *Evidence is evolving regarding the use of vitamin supplements. These recommendations are based onour own experiences with post-concussion syndrome.
